Wine Sale

This banner was completely random.

I have no idea where this fabulous wine sale was happening.

The sign gives no clue, and it is attached to a fence in an industrial neighborhood.

The closest buildings are an abandoned warehouse and the Post Office.

Someone worked hard on the graphics - pretty clever to use the zero in 20% as the bottle and the i in wine as the glass.

Random, though.  I have no idea where I could go to get an EXTRA 20% off.

Taken 18 December 2018.

  1. How frustrating to see this attractive sign and have no idea if it is connected to a store. Perhaps someone was just pulling your leg?

    1. LOL. Could be. I thought perhaps someone had these banners made then realized they had no location info, so they just put 'em up indiscriminately for the heck of it.

  2. Yep I did smile with your explanation it not being in front of some winery or store. Someone's thinking of advertisements is awry. !
Sherry & jack out here on this side.

  3. Out of mere curiosity (thankfully I'm *not* a cat), I was just roaming through some of your old stuffs. I find you to be an interesting horse of a different color, Mr. Ed.

I believe I can partially solve the mystery here.
I instantly recognized that sign as belonging to a Grocery Outlet store. As far as I know, this chain is found only in California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland. They have several Grocery Outlets here in Northern Nevada, where I live, and I am a regular customer. (Great prices on many unique products, but don't fall in love with anything, because once they sell out, you may never see that product in the store ever again.)

Probably 2-4 times per year, GO puts on a 20%-off wine sale. And that's the reason I recognized that sign immediately. I've seen them hanging in and on different GO stores many times over the last 9 years. Someone must have "borrowed" it from a nearby GO store and re-hung it on that fence because... well, just because.

    1. Glad you knew this Stephen. It has been keeping me up nights for years now. :) And I should have known this. We lived in Fresno at the time, and we went to Grocery Outlet regularly. We called it "Gross Out." You're right, though. Great prices, but get it while you can!

Northern Nevada, eh? Our son lived in Reno, Sparks, Fallon, Fernlea for a bunch of years until he moved in with us a few years ago. He was up there last month to visit friends.

And, I'll take the 'interesting horse of a different color' characterization. For sure. ~Ed.

    2. "Horse of a different color" is just my fancy-shmancy long-winded way of saying "maverick". (And "maverick" is the highest compliment I can pay a person. I once attempted to create an organization called 'Mavericks United', but to my dismay, no one joined. I still don't understand how come that! ;^)

For decades I wanted to move to Reno. I finally did it in 2015, and 4 days after moving in, I knew I'd messed up. (Reno is so close to hell that one can see Sparks! ;^)

After 4 years, I dejectedly decided I was going to move back to Airheadzona. But at the last moment, God stepped in and redirected me to a place I like so much that I call it "Willoughberry". (A mash-up of the Twilight Zone episode 'A Stop At Willoughby', and Mayberry from... you know where.)

I designed and sell (and give away) some bumper stickers here that capture how I feel about Willoughberry.

[Link> This Snarky One is my personal favorite (and the biggest seller). But I have others that promote more [Link> Positive Messages.

I trust that your sleep will greatly improve, now that I've brought you some closure about the mystery sign. (You owe me. I'll send Rocco to collect when the time comes.)
