Street Art #7: Colorado Springs

The colors and the shapes are vibrant and exciting, but the real surprises are in the details.
I would have loved to watch this being created,
to see how the layers appeared from bottom to top.

Taken in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the Depot Art District.

London Bridge, Havasu

While I was in my archives looking for pics of the pups, I ran across this photo of London Bridge - at least the part of it that is now hanging out in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

For a fuller story of how parts of the original London Bridge came to retire in Arizona

This pic was taken in September 2006 with my first digital camera - an Olympus.

Bossley and Shadow

Shadow, the Australian Shepherd, and
Bossley, the Pug.
BFFs.

Inspired by Ken Mac's recent retriever post at his fantastic site:

I searched my archives to find a few pics of my current two favorite best friends.
A couple of years ago, our human best friends and we each adopted a young dog on the same day.
They took Shadow home, and we took Bossley home.
The two dogs have the most extraordinary friendship I have ever witnessed between two dogs.
They love each other utterly and unconditionally.
As soon as we speak Shadow's name, Bossley is anxious to hop in the car and go for a visit.
When we turn onto their street, he can hardly contain himself.
I think they remember being "convicts" together at the ASPCA.

They are just awesome.
Period.

Brighten the Corner

It's just a tabletop and a carpet pattern;
but the warm tones, the size differential, and the geometric lines grab the attention.
Well, at least they grabbed my attention;
hence this photograph.

Grass Bouquet

Looks like fireworks.
Or maybe hair.
This is a spray of grass in the midst of the well-designed landscaping outside of the P.F.Chang's at Del Monte Center in Monterey, California.
The lines, colors, and textures are what caught my attention.

Determined Sprout

Besides the straightforward organic nature of this shot, and the contrast of the green against the mundane grey of the background, and the geometry of the perpendicular lines, and the textures, and details like the rusty nail and woodgrain...
I see a living parable of triumph over adversity, determination to find and embrace the light, hope for life in the midst of challenges, and a tiny beacon of cheer surrounded by dull circumstances.

Reflected Palms

Simply a stand of palm trees reflected in a car window.

Shadow Tongs

Taken after dark illuminated only by my backporch light.
You almost miss the actual tongs in the picture because your eye is drawn to the Shadow Tongs.

Pines in the Fog

Not a terribly uncommon sight in Monterey, California;
but always uncommonly and mysteriously inspiring.

And there was LIGHT

Fluorescent light, that is.
Looking straight up from my desk, this is what greets me.
It's not really helping my tan.

Kansas City Sunrise

Here is a "video" of a Kansas City sunrise.
This is a series of about thirty (30) still photographs I took in sequence about a minute apart from each other without benefit of a tripod over the period between about 6:50am and 7:15am on 19 October 2010.
Location is on the banks of the pond behind the KC Airport Marriott.
Besides the rising of the sun itself, watch for changes in the ripples on the pond, jet streams in the sky, headlights on the far shore, and (my favorite, unexpected, effect) the approach of dark clouds overhead and their reflections in the pond.
Granted, I could have taken an actual video of the sunrise, but what fun would THAT be?

MUSIC is a track called "Still" recorded by John Wineglass (keyboard) and Rebecca Jackson (violin); the song was written by Reuben Morgan.

Green Iguana

This gigantic green iguana is lurking in the rafters at The Green Iguana, a groovy joint in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida.
I can personally vouch for the delicious lemonade and scrumptious tuna-melt on marble rye and yummerific curly fries.
I can also vouch for the fact that none of the many iguanas positioned strategically throughout the place interfered with my voracious consumption of culinary delights.
However, I did keep a watchful eye on this humungatorious reptile throughout the meal.

Taken 4 August 2010.

PS: the iguanas were not suffering from the humidity nearly as much as I was.
as far as I could tell.

'S miley Phase

I'm always looking for smiles.
Found one!
Right in the center of this photograph.

Pin and Weave

These are three standard clear pushpins.
You can see the metal pin part thru the clear plastic.
They are stuck into the gray fabric-covered panels on my office wall.
I never knew that fabric had so many colors in it!

Stubby Pencils

Pull up a pencil and have a seat!
I spotted these great stools at a recent conference in Southern California.
The picture turned out to be more surprising than the real thing.
I guess that happens a lot when we take pictures - the captured image reveals even more than we saw with the naked eye.
I include the pic below showing actual seat-on-seat because the pic above is so surreal.

Taken in Anaheim, California, 14 October 2010.

Ever-faithful Canon PowerShot A590.

GIANTS ARE WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!

I cannot repress my celebration!!!
Today's post is a tribute to the San Francisco Giants, winners of the 2010 World Series!!!

These pictures were taken on 3 October 2010, at the last game of the regular season, when the Giants won the National League West Division pennant and clinched their berth in the Playoffs, which eventually led to their stunning victory in the World Series last night.  This is the first ever World Championship for the San Francisco Giants, although when the Giants were still in New York they won the World Series in 1954.

GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!
