Art Installation, Mesa
This art installation was in its own little plaza
in Mesa, Arizona.
The red fence is hiding a power sub-station.
The link in the above photo is no longer available BUT

for more information about street pianos.

Also in Mesa...
Here're a few photos
I almost included in
yesterday's post
,
but decided they would be a bit overwhelmed
by the mural.
Taken 25 March 2016.

Heatwave Mural
This unusual mural is in Mesa, Arizona,
where one could imagine the heat causing
this mirage / melting effect.
The work is called "Melting Point,"
created by
Mural Mice

Distant Desert Flowers, Mountains, Palms, and Sky
I think this one with the palms
was actually taken in Indio, CA.
The rest of these photos
were taken at a rest area along I-10
somewhere between Quartzite and Phoenix.
Taken 8 February 2017.

Mesa Colonnade
This colonnade is at a hotel in Mesa, Arizona.
It is a simple covered passageway
from the main building to some
meeting rooms in a side building.
There is something comforting and inviting
about the geometry
and the inherent telescoping perspective.
Notice the textured diamonds in the walkway.
Also, the pillars are not directly across from each other.
They are staggered.
This photo was taken 14 February 2017.

Arts Sighted in Quartzite
Quartzite
A blip along Interstate 10 in the western hinterlands of Arizona.
A great stop for rock hounds, gem lovers, and flea marketers of every stripe.
Camel is apparently the town mascot.
Carving at the ends of the beams,
inside and out.
Clever, and well done.
Inside they are painted.
Hippo's lips and eyelashes
are irresistible.
Would love to hear the stories behind this broken wheel.
These pictures were taken February 2017.

Church in Sierra Vista
This church in Sierra Vista, Arizona,
caught my eye.
Beautiful colors and architectural details.
Unfortunately,
I did not take a picture of the sign,
and I have forgotten the name of the church.
The stark blue sky that day was gorgeous and amazing.
Taken 9 February 2011.

Spiny Succulent
Beautiful yet threatening
and
a natural optical illusion.
Taken in Sierra Vista, AZ, 7 February 2011.

A Road Less Traveled... Lately
I'm taking a bit of a risk here
because I do not know the story behind the place
in the following photographs.
But I found the visual parable
SO compelling...
Below this broken sign
is a gate
closed,
chained,
locked.
And the view past the locked gate:
...a languishing path...
...to a house of faith:
A closer look reveals
broken windows,
failing shingles,
grafitti...
Is our world becoming
a wilderness of abandoned faith?
Taken 7 February 2011.
