Water Tower at Ventura and H

Nothing extra special about this water tower...
but it is slim and clean!

Esquire to squire

Used to be "Esquire Center"
but both sides of the sign have been altered
to read "squire center."

This mural contains many layers of meaning.

Rooftop Pavilion

The pavilion atop this otherwise ordinary building
draws the eye away from the plain, straight lines.

It's a Sign

Something tells me
this used to be an eye-catching sign.
It still managed to catch my eye!

Unexpected Face #14

Honestly.
I did not stage this.
I just made my breakfast, and
there he was,
with this horrified look of chagrin.

I ate him anyway.

Seen Better Days

Abandoned and neglected.
Ever had one of those days?

Architectural Embellishments

These pillars do not add any obvious structural component,
but their simple design adds a note of interest to the building;
especially when the shadows appear.

Logo

I just like this logo.
I do not remember the full name of the company, though...

Still selling chop suey,
though, frankly, one wouldn't
know it by the condition of their signs...

Chair #16

Usually my "chair" pictures
show one solitary chair or bench,
but one day this scene caught my attention.
Seven different chairs.
This must be where old chairs go to hang out.

More Street Art

My favorite part of this mural
is the anthropomorphized spray paint can.
My least favorite part is that I could not get
a clear photo of the whole mural...

Julia's Mural

This colorful bird adds a touch
of tropical atmosphere to the parking
at Julia's Mexican Restaurant.
While the bird takes in the lovely scenery
of lake and snow-capped mountain,
he also wonders at the mysterious
interruption of crude tagging
on the tree trunk and in the distant sky...

Full Moon

I was just trying to see if I could get
a decent photo of the full moon.
In the first shot,
a bird in flight "photo-bombed" the frame!

Of course one cannot see great detail,
and the sky is a uniform dull gray backdrop;
but the visibility of the shades
of texture that appear on the moon's surface
makes me smile in wonder.

Clovis Water Tower

One wonders if,
when this water tower was first erected,
the builders envisioned it ever
becoming a bastion of electronic relay.

Meet on the corner

There's a surprising number of details
to observe in this deceptively plain
photograph.
Doors windows, ramp rail, street light, old brick,
rusty brackets, shadows, trees, blue sky,
whatever that lighter stain is
descending from the rusty brackets...
mainly I noticed at first
the way the ambient light
affects the color of the gray walls -
lighter to the left,
a bit darker to the right...

Crane

As we step into 2019,
we like the thought that the new year
represents an opportunity for a fresh start,
resolving to make changes in how we live our lives;
to be better people, really.
We can do that.
Still, our lives remain an accumulation
of all the experiences we have had over the preceding years.
We are who we are
because of the people we have known,
the places we have been,
what we have seen, read, heard, learned.
Some of us may need a crane like this
to heave our life experiences
into the new year with us.
