Shadow Rays

 

I am not certain what cause those "shadow rays."

Maybe the mountains?  Or the clouds?

I love sunrises and sunsets. The colors can be so vivid!

Babe

I shot this because of the style of the sign

and just the word itself, "Babe."

It is a commercial storage business.

I like the balance of the blue wall and the blue sky.

I like the lines - the power line, the cinder block rectangles,

the fence and the windows and the bars on the windows,

and especially the shadows of the fence and the window bars.

There are even several horizontal shadows cutting across the wall 

from the multiple power lines above.

And I like the little clouds in the bright blue sky.

J. M. Rustigian Building, 1920

If you zoom in, you can read the "banner" above the terra cotta.

It reads, "J. M. Rustigian Building,"

and just above that is imprinted (engraved? embossed?)

1920.

So this building is approaching its 100th anniversary.

I love the details, especially the way it has been freshly painted.

Cloudy Sky Water Tower

This photo might be a bit better

without the power line,

but the dramatic diagonal slash

adds an element of interest, right?

Cloud, Sky, Tree

I noticed the blue sky and the fluffy cloud,

and I always like palm trees...

but what really caught my attention

was the stylized holiday tree

hugging the lamp post.

Sunset

The colors are somewhat muted,

but the configuration of the clouds

is what caught my attention.

Evening and Morning

The first photo is an morning shot,

taken near my place of work.

The second is an evening shot,

same day, taken from my backyard.

I managed to capture a couple of crows flying across the frame.

I was struck by the pink pillar of cloud.

Skyfire

Sunrise.

Our home star likes to make a grand entrance,

setting the sky on fire every morning.

The clouds do their part

to make it all the more magnificent.

Floating droplets passing the warm glow to each other

across the expansive dome;

reflecting, refracting,

joyfully re-shining,

even rejoicing!

Brilliant light.

Blessed sight.

Highway Rainbow

Somewhere along Highway 101,

just north of Paso Robles,

this rainbow appeared to 

encourage us

on a long drive home.

Not perhaps

the most stunning

or startling

photo of a rainbow

ever captured,

but still enough

to make one

smile,

and to wonder

what the light must be like

on that hill

that seems to be

at rainbow's end.

Monterey Sunrise

It's just water vapor

in the sky

reflecting sunlight

as our side of the earth

turns again toward

our local star;

and stately oaks

greeting the sun's "arrival"

cast in two-dimensional

silhouette

against the lightening

cyclorama

of the morning skyscape.

That's all it is.

But the bruised hues

of this daily performance

are never tiresome.

They are always

beautiful,

breath-taking,

heart-swelling,

peace-inducing.

Split the Sky

This leaves me a little speechless.

It is simply a cloud reflecting the light of the rising sun,

but it looks like the sky is splitting open.

This was directly above me,

so I just looked straight up

and snapped the photo.

I guess even from 93 million miles away

when the blazing glory of our home star

reflects simultaneously on gazillions

of airborne water droplets

the resulting splendor is

...well...

SPLENDID!
