Licata Building, Ybor City

Spotted this lovely old edifice
on the main drag in Ybor City,
Tampa, Florida.
I like the blond brick,
and the simple but elegant
architectural lines.

Can't decide whether
to be encouraged
or bummed out
about the place
housing a
"Rock n Roll Bar"...
Certainly better than holding
nothing but emptiness and desolation.

Chair #3: Ybor City

This invitation to repose
was stationed outside the back entrance
of a local eatery
in Ybor City,
Tampa, Florida.

I got the feeling the chair wanted to say something like,
"What are YOU lookin' at?"

Teatro, Ybor City

Scenic, delightful
Ybor City,
Tampa, Florida.

Note the "Arturo Fuente" Cigar Factory Sign in the background.

Gotta love the "gaslight" retro globe lampposts.

Palm tree, blue sky,
brickwork,
terra cotta roof,
neon signage...

What's not to love?

New Door, Mature Facade

Lovely, mature brick facade
(early 20th century cigar factory)
meets handsome, fit young pair of doors.
Grand old dame adopts twins.
Amazing how the spartan contemporary lines
of these new doors do not seem out of place
nestled in this crusty brick alcove.
Granted, the pattern in the glass
is very art deco,
and also reminiscent of craftsman style,
with a tip of the hat to Frank Lloyd Wright
and Tiffany.

Attractive.
Appealing.
Artsy.
Ahh!-inspiring.

Cigar Factory with Palm

This former cigar factory in Ybor City,
Tampa, Florida,
has been converted to office space.
Attractive in the most literal sense:
Shape and shadow of the arch detail above the windows,
brickwork "ledge" below second-story windows,
neatly painted crown detail across the top.
Note the iron hinges on either side of each window;
one lonely pair of shutters remains to explain and represent.

Centro Espanol

Snagged a snap of this interesting building during a stroll through Ybor City in Tampa, Florida, back in August 2010.
The brickwork and the accent details caught my eye;
also the wrought iron balconies are an appealing feature.

There is a nice article about the history of this building HERE.

Bernini Cherub

Irresistible signage in Ybor City, Tampa, Florida.  I had already eaten at the Green Iguana, so I did not sample the fare at this eye-catching location, but the bust above the sign was calling out to be recorded.  Really.  I think it was literally calling out.  I could almost hear it.

Always ready with my Canon PowerShot A590.

Artful Repose

Found object.  I did not drink the beer, but on the hot Florida afternoon when I took this picture, I was wishing I had.  Wandering around Ybor City I sighted this artfully discarded soldier and couldn't resist the opportunity to immortalize the languishing litter.  Taken on 2 August 2010 in Tampa, Florida.

In case you're still not sure: Canon PowerShot A590.

White on Blue

There is a For Sale sign on this lovely church in Ybor City, Tampa, FL. One wonders what creative destiny this building will fulfill. Taken 2 August 2010.

You have to ask? Why, the Canon PowerShot A590, of course.
