Cactus and Sombrero

It is a little tough to spot at first,
but there is a figure seated at the base
of a cactus as part of this old sign.
The figure is wrapped in a blanket
and wearing a sombrero;
must be enjoying a siesta
while the rest of the sign takes a long nap.

Taken 20 November 2018.

  1. Must be a sign from the mid-20th Century. Today that image might be seen as a racial stereotype, but in the 1950s it was just seen as "cute." Could have been a motel sign.

    1. Yes. I was conscious of my wording as I wrote the blurb, precisely because of the possibility of the image being considered ethnically insensitive. I have to say, sometimes it can be exhausting for an old coot like me.
